Having switched a few years ago from Vegas pro to final cut pro and then final cut pro to premiere pro, I still have very good memories of Vegas pro and still think it has features that are just as good if not better. If it hadn’t been for me switching platforms I wouldn’t have switched I don’t think. I don’t think in all that switching that I really gained much, so I would take a good look at what you are doing and what you are hoping to achieve by switching, because it can be a costly process. For me I had to because I switched from PC to Mac, but I have alot of respect for Vegas, particularly how it deals with audio.

Another thing to note is that premiere pro, in the next fee weeks, becomes rental software. You pay a monthly subscription. Stop paying Adobe and you can no longer edit or access your projects, but whilst you are paying, you can sit on the bleeding edge and get all the latest fixes and updates.

Premiere pro is extremely good at dealing with any media. You can almost throw anything on the timeline and it works, which saves a bit of time, and premiere pro integrates nicely with the other adobe products like after effects.

If you are already up to speed with Vegas Pro, do not need to collaborate with other premiere pro users or integrate with the other Adobe products, then it’s probably not worth switching, but which tool is the right one for you is a personal choice. For me, as I have effectively switched three times, I now view them like cars in that they are all basically the same, I can hop in and out of different ones and they all have things I both like and dislike, but I never buy a car because it’s shiny.

Vegas shouldn’t be freezing ; are there system issues to be addressed ? If you want a Vegas alternative, another contender to look at is Edius; there’s a free trial and it’s quite hardware-tolerant. https://www.grassvalley.com/products/edius_pro_6.5

I switched from Vegas Pro to Premiere. Premiere is a bit clunky compared to Vegas but it doesn’t crash. Vegas Pro 10 is rock solid. Vegas Pro 11 and 12 crashed so much I had to drop them. Sorry to say but you only have to be humiliated once with a client looking over your shoulder and Vegas Pro 11 and 12 would always crash. I tried everything I could to make them work but they didn’t. And I was a beta tester for both of them! I can sit down with a client and be confident that I can work for hours with Premiere CS6 and get the job done. I still use Vegas Pro 10. Sure hope they fix Vegas Pro 13.
