  • Color values not matching in QT export from CS6

I’m having an insane time trying to export a QT file from my CS6 timeline that includes some 3 Way and Fast Color Correction filters. The Quicktime export (using either H.264 or ProRes) has no relationship whatsoever to the color tones I see on my PPro timeline window. Nothing at all – the values are VERY different. My source media are high bit rate H.264 mp4’s (camera original, no transcoding). I just went through an exhaustive session with my DP, color correcting several shots (some multicamed with the filters applied in the timeline with the layered shots) and all of them exported without any visible color correction.

Here is a screen grab of one of the video shots from within PPro CS6 on the left (yes, it’s Geena Davis) and a screen grab from Quicktime player 7 on the right (I hope the photo uploaded properly; haven’t done this before in this forum). You can see the values are completely different.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I need to finish this the day after tomorrow..! Thanks in advance for any help.

Trying again to attach the photo comparison file as a smaller file this time…

To add to my dilemma further…

The 3 way color correction filter that I applied to Geena’s camera on my multicamed timeline no longer updates on my assembled timeline with my multicamed media nested as a file…I don’t get it. The filter did update for a while, but now it doesn’t. Yes, I exited and restarted. Same problem.

Yeah. Quicktime player is pretty horrible and it can mess up the gamma. Have you tried other media players to watch the files?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, QT player does mess with the gamma a bit, but really my biggest problem now is just getting the color correction filter I had placed on one angle in my layered multicamed timeline updated in my assembled timeline with the nested multicam. That’s what is really driving me crazy and making me unable to output and finish this project.

Ah. It looks to be pilot error, ladies and gentlemen. I was applying the filter to an outdated layered multicamed timeline…when I “revealed in project” from my nested multicamed timeline, it became suddenly clear and I put the filter in there – voila! Thanks anyway..!
