So I am trying to have a halo of text effect and am having trouble creating the illusion of revolving curved text. is it even possible to do this in AE Pro? It’s supposed to be sort of holographic looking and i will just loop the rotation. The text will be in place of the time, it will reflect like it and be the same font. If someone could explain to me how to do this that would be awesome. I have taken a couple college courses on After Effects and consider myself pretty knowledgeable, so it shouldn’t take too long of an explanation for me to understand. Oh and I should mention it’s a DVD Menu. The text will say “Stopped” because the user will have stopped the song, which triggers the menu to jump to the Stopped Menu version.

Here’s a link to another version of it:

Have you tried CC Cylinder? The trick here would possibly be to use separate instancesof the effect to get different looks for the front and backface. You can also completely fake this by using Optics Compensation (for the barrel distortion) in combination with Motion Tile (for the motion).

I have submitted a tutorial to the Cow which shows how to create ribbons of text flowing through 3D space. It should be posted soon and with it you should be able to do what you want to do. As it is not posted yet, I hope you understand, I cannot give specifics in this post.
