  • Downloading YouTube videos with MPEG Streamclip

I’m trying to download some temp music from YouTube that will be replaced by library music for a client using MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 without success. I go to YouTube and find a music video that I want and click on ‘Share.’ That reveals a URL. I open File and Open URL in MPEG Streamclip. Then I drag the URL to the blank space in the box after clicking on ‘Download.’ I get an error message. Am I doing something wrong or are there embedded protections against downloading music? Thanks for your thoughts.

You need to locate one of the many sites or apps that will lift a youtube video for use on your computer…

You can download just the audio track.

I thought MPEG Streamclip was one of those apps.

    Hi Frank,

Have you looked into “videodownloadhelper” — a free add-on for firefox?

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

It puts a little icon at the top in your tool bar, and it will light up when it detects a video that it can lift. From my experience, I’ve only run into a few youtube videos that it wouldn’t rip. Download speeds may be a little slow, but it will do the job — and it will also let you choose the different resolutions of the video to download.
