  Media Encoder CS6 – H264 Preset

  I had a doubt regarding the codecs used by media encoder cs6.
  When I export using any H264 preset, the resulting file shows codec ID as MP42. Shouldn’t it be H264 codec?

  You’re looking at the FourCC code. Different implementations from different companies can be assigned different FourCC codes.

  MP42 is the code assigned to the MPEG-4 codec that, at some point, originated from a Microsoft Media developer toolkit. It’s quite possible Adobe is using an implementation based on Microsoft’s code for its non-Quicktime based encoding.

  H.264 is equivalent to MPEG-4 (part 10). People often use the terms interchangeably.
