  AMD FirePro/OpenCL-powered Mercury Playback in Windows at IBC

  Did anybody see the technology preview at the AMD booth showing a special build of Premiere Pro running GPU-accelerated Mercury effects in Windows on OpenCL?

  By the way, I should say that I work on the AMD FirePro team, and as a long time PPro user, I am completely stoked about this! I’d love to hear any feedback on this from the community.

  Brilliant! Don’t forget to add support for all AMD-Mac GPUs also. Hacking the “approved” list can result in some buggy behavior at the moment. A Radeon 5870 should be quite decent at accelerating effects I’d imagine.

  Hi Adam,

  Didn’t go to IBC and was looking forward to seeing the video about “a special build of Premiere Pro running GPU-accelerated Mercury effects in Windows on OpenCL” – but all I saw was a 10-second mentioning of it in the video – no demo, no benchmarks, no details of any sort.

  Did I miss it? If I didn’t, do you have any technical information on it?

  Hi Alex,

  The video link is one of the little boxes below the main “screen”. If you click to the Right a couple of times, its the video with the blond girl and the title is “Technology Preview – Premiere Pro with AMD”

  I can’t give you any information about this build as I am under NDA and wasn’t given many details to begin with… 🙂

  In our booth, we showed about 40 accelerated effects under the Mercury engine including 3-way CC, warp stabilizer, rolling shutter removal, alpha/chroma/luma keying, noise/grain, etc etc etc. We also showed GPU-accelerated realtime full-res decode of a number of different camera formats including the new JVC 4K GY-HMQ10u.

  -all kinds of OpenCL-powered goodness for the boys and girls. 🙂

  “Open” is good. “Choice” is good. right?
