  • Problem with Luma and Chroma levels after render using FRAPS

    Hi everyone,

I’ve been having a problem for about six months that I can never quite figure out, so I really hope someone can help me out.

I sometimes use FRAPS to record things that I’m trying to demonstrate to friends on my computer, be they in a game or on my desktop. When I try to render out the footage after editing it (I use virtualdub to repackage the fraps files into an avi container w/ a lagarith codec so it plays nice with premiere) The video almost always seems to be messed up. It seems “foggy” and slightly blown out. I think the problem is that the codecs I am using for my final render will use broadcast luma levels of 16-235 instead of the computer levels of 0-255.

Here are some pretty pictures to help you out:

It’s also ENTIRELY possible that I’m completely on the wrong track, and the problem is something entirely different.

Thank you for all of your help.
