In an earlier Post I requested help with problems on my new QDR card, after extensive detective work with Apple and PNY there was no choice but to send the card in for replacement.

Subsequently, I decided to do a clean install while waiting for the new card. Then I noticed a core was pegged at 100% after about 1 minute from startup, but everything still worked, not good and I figured this was the problem and not the card. I went over the whole lot again with Apple and they told me I had to send in my MP. What the hell.

I decided to restore all factory RAM and remove my Raid card and to do a clean install again before taking it to the store. The problem disappeared so I restored RAM and my Raid card to check if it was a Hardware issue, no problem.

I then started to install one by one all my software to see if I could catch the Bug. Got it, it is my APC UPS system. As soon as I installed the software drivers for the USB connection, which appears in the Preference Pane the core pegged. There is an uninstaller on the APC disc and as soon as I did all was normal.

Calls to APC were unproductive (their service people I had two don’t know jack). I then was told that they have no drivers for Mac, really best check their own site.

Don’t repeat don’t install any drivers from APC the Energy Preference Pane is sufficient to set your requirements.

    Hi Don,

As you know from a previous post, one of my quadro4K mac systems is acting
    a lot like yours.

I don’t have any ups software installed though.

I’ve arranged a replacement for another quadro from PNY.

    hoping that solves the problem.

    Yea Chris

One thing I would do is watch the activity monitor or Menu Meters to see if any core gets pegged, apparently the QDR doesn’t like that and freezes. At least I’m hoping that is my case, I’ll only know when I get the card back.

I have all my software installed along with Cuda drivers update and don’t forget the display drivers too. Surely when I get the card all will be terrific, I’ll let you know.

well turns out its not likely my Quadro.

removed it and put back in old card and it still locks up.

    trying memory tests next.

Hi Chris. Did you ever have luck figuring out what was freezing you up? Not only is my sys freezing for no apparent reason, but get the Quadro to work again is a task. Usually have to kill all power to the computer and restart a couple of times. As you well know, this all really sux. I’m trying your APC trick shortly, but I’ve not seen any pegging. I’ve been putting off up’n to Lion because of FCP7, but I’ll try anything at this point.
