Anybody here integrated successfully a MAC and Windows KVM Switch?

I bought Trident and IOGEAR KVM Switch – because I’m planning to control both MAC and our new HP Z820 workstation with just one display, keyboard and mouse/wacom tablet – my main problem is that both TRIDENT and IOGEAR seem to support only – VGA outputs.

So my solution was to buy VGA to DVI adapters – is that okay?

Also with this solution – I guess I’m stuck with using a single display monitor – I guess its time to consider that Dell 27 inch Ultrasharp Monitor now…

Any thoughts and insights on what I’m planning to do?

My MAC Workstation is outputting SDI via a blackmagic decklink 3D Extreme while my Windows HPZ820 would utilize the our old blackmagic design’s UltraStudio Pro via USB 3 output of the Z820.

    Thank you guys.

VGA-to-DVI – no good for a monitor such as a U2711 – or for any DVI monitor for that matter. It’s like converting 1080p to BetaSP and back. Unlikely to look good.

Ideally, you’d need a hi-res DP (DisplayPort) KVM supporting up to 2560×1600 resolutions (U2711 and Cinema 27 are 2560×1440 I believe).

DisplayPort (and not DVI or HDMI or VGA) – because it supersedes all other display connectivity options and is adaptable to them unlike the other way around.

Here is a dual monitor one, Startech SV231DPDDUA.

U2711 and most of today’s decent IPS monitors have DP connectors, and if not, adapters to VGA, DVI, MiniDP and HDMI are available that transmit all the right data, management and PnP signals.

    HTH.

Thank You Alex, I already ordered the item you recommended. In the mean time I’ll just use a separate mouse keyboard and display for the HPZ820. – thanks again.

I just got a ATEN CubiQ CS1642 2 port Dual KVM that supposedly supports a 30″ and 24″ dual link DVI at the same time (my current Mac Pro setup). I haven’t yet tried it but I’m hoping it can help me use my PC running Premiere Pro along with my Mac running everything else. I’ll report back on how it works
