  • Am I crazy to move a feature doc from FCP to Premiere

    Hi,

I am just about to re-edit a feature length doc down to an hour. Its almost all straight cuts and the color correction was done in FCP not color. The sound edit will need doing from scratch. We just have one big mixed down track and the sound editor does not have the project they used.

I know the titles will get messed up but what other problems am I likely to hive. I think the main issue will be the color correction as I guess the FCP 3 wheal does not get imported?

One reason I am doing this is to learn Premiere but if it is a really stupid idea I will finish in FCP.

    Any advise greatly appreciated.

    Ben

Are you on a strict deadline?

Surely it can be done….any you will likely learn a lot of valuable info about transitioning work from one tool to another….

    but…the unknowns can be a time eater….

So that would be a consideration in my thinking…

Its not a tight deadline. I was thinking of giving it a few days and seeing how it goes. Is Premiere OK with this type of long form work?

CS6 is more stable than FCP 7 for long-form stuff (assuming you have a GPU-enabled computer). Not as stable as Avid.

    I would definitely try it!

I would try to bring across a short piece to test first. I haven’t been able to successfully bring color correction across (either via the FC 3way or Colorista), but I haven’t investigated or tested too deeply.

Other than that, it’s easy to make the move, especially using the FC 7 keyboard shortcuts.

The more I use it, the more I like PPro’s 3way better than FC7 — many more options, but a lot more to learn for me. Not sure I would want to learn by regrading a feature myself, maybe a music video.
