  CS5.5 Dynamic Link – Accidentally overwrote AELink and cannot restore!

  I have a job that I’ve done a bit of dynamic linking to/from(Premiere 5.5 to AE 5.5). Starting off today, after opening Premiere(with AE closed) I clicked on a clip to dynamically link to AE. When AE opened, I selected the AE project file and clicked save not even thinking . I immediately got a sick feeling in my stomach, as all of my linked footage is now offline/missing. I have auto-save set up in Premiere, and have backed that file up many times–but I never backed up the AE file.

  The project is complete sans color grading, and now I want to shoot myself. Did I just lose everything? Is there any way to unlink those clips so they revert back to the original video files? I was only using AE to stabilize footage, so if that’s the case I will be SO happy.

  Or, am I screwed?

  I’m not sure I understand.

  but let me see….

  You had clips in your PPro Project that you had dynamic Linked.
  Were all those AE comps in the same AE Project?

  Then today you created a new Dynamic link clip….
  But this one opened in a Fresh AE Project, not the one where all the other dynamic link projects were?

  Then when you saved the new one accidentally saved over the other dynamic link Project?

  hmmmmmmm…..

  1st think I’d do is check you preferences for AE….
  because it should do auto saves as well (unless you intentionally turned it off).

  So see if you can find an autosave that contains all you Dynamic linked comps.

  If you can then your choice, it would seem, is to

  a) Save the Project file under the original name and see if PPro will see it.

  b) Re-import the comps from the dynamic link project your PPro project and cut them into your timeline again.

  You probably want to be working with a copy of you PPro project as well….just in case you need to go back to the original when trying this stuff….

  Your exactly correct in how I flubbed up. And unfortunately, for some stupid reason or another, AutoSave is NOT enabled in AE–meaning Im screwed.

  Is there ANY way to revert the linked clips back to their original .mov states?
