I have a regular job where a client is cutting on an Avid MC. I then do the finishing in Premiere for them. Doing an aaf import crashes Premiere for me so the next best action is to export the finished video file from Avid and import into Premiere. Not ideal as it is just one file but it is not a great problem as the finishing is mainly graphics.

Can anyone advise the best way to do this? I thought a DNxHD export from MC would be best but as the project is SD I can’t use DNxHD. Is DV a good export format or is it too lossy?

    Thanks guys

If you have the Avid codec package installed, for SD you can use Avid Meridien Uncompressed 1:1 or 1:1x.
DV is generally a pretty poor quality codec. DV50 is not bad, if you want to use less space than uncompressed.
I’d avoid Avid Meridien 2:1 or greater Compressed, though they are still widely used.

Thanks for the reply John, sorry it took so long to thank you 🙂

Avid Meridian is what I ended up thinking would be a good option. Do you know why 2:1 compression is not a good option. Would have thought it is still pretty good option. I remember Digi Beta was 2:1 compression.

    Cheers
