  Transfer footage from a Sony HDR-FX1 camera

  Hi everyone!
  I did a shooting with the above mentioned camera (Sony HDR-FX1, https://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=HDRFX1).

  I am trying to capture the footage, but it seems I can only receive it on Premiere via FireWire and it comes in as 720×480 widescreen, even though it was captured in 1080i. I have Adobe Premiere CS4 and a BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card (https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/models/).

  Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

  Hi Rafa,

  HDV camcorders all have an option in the menu system for downconverting HD playback to SD, both on 1394 (i.Link convert) and analog outputs. You should find a setting that says “1080i/480i” – switch this to “1080i” to get the HD output

  jeff,
  Thank you for replying so quickly. I found the menu you mentioned, but the only options it allows are “480i” and “1080i/480i”. I already had set for the second option… no option for ONLY 1080i.

  Did you turn i-Link-CONV off?
  Othewise it will downsample.

  I am having the same issue with my sony fx1’s being 720 x480.I have tried different combinations with the menu settings.I tried on both my cameras.I even tried throwing in a new tape ( just incase the recorded tape is not allowing the camera to change because it might detect the tape was recorded at 720 ). I have noticed the menu saying to unplug i-link cable.Changes not allowed. I tried this while i had firewire in and when it wasn’t. I find it odd to be a bad camera because i have 2 of the same (HDRFX1). Im trying these menu settings while unit is in vtr mode. I even took a look at the menu that had to do with recording settings to see if anything there made any sense. Any help would be appreciated.
