  Export from VOB file to f4v resulting in poor quality…..Any ideas?

  Hello,

  I have received a DVD which has a 2 hour video taped conference I am supposed to edit down into individual ‘flash’ clips.

  I have copied the VOB files from the DVD and imported them directly into Premiere Pro CS5 with no problem. I have sliced them all up according to my edit sheet and now I want to export them as individual ‘.f4v’ files.

  One thing I am having a hard time understanding is why my video clips in my bin (directly taken from the DVD) say they are 720 x 576 in size.
  Once I go to export them as a fv4 files and choose ‘match source attributes – high quality’ it says they are 788 x 576…Why is this?

  Anyways, I went through with exporting the first clip which is 20 minutes. It took almost 3 hours!!! Is this normal? This is going to take a week to finish at this rate…I can’t believe it.

  As an .f4v file type I could only open it up in Adobe media player. I was astounded how awful the quality was of the video I had just exported. There are lots of graphs and charts which were filmed during the presentation which all seemed alright and legible on the dvd….however on this f4v export the picture quality is atleast 30-40% worse…..not something I can give to the client.

  Any explanations for this? Have I done something wrong?

  Dont use match source attributes, it uses the preview codec which is of lesser quality.
  Use a preset or set everything manually

  Hi Ann,

  Thanks for the quick reply.
  I took your advice and chose to export using .fv4 for web (high quality) with flash 9 or higher.
  Now in my Media encoder it says the export will take 4 hours….
  Even longer than my last export.
  Is this normal? Or is my computer too slow?

  Just try a few minutes first and see if the quality is ok.
