Premiere Pro and Livetype
Hi there,
basically having massive annoyance with CS5 Prem Pro and any text graphic going into it. I’m a little confused to say the least! I have been searching around for ages but I cannot find a solution on the forums or elsewhere.
SO for starters I have a graphic from After Effects I am putting into Premiere Pro. Now the settings I had are identical and I get pixelation in PP but not in AE. I try to adjust settings, and I get variations of pixelation but it always is pixelated. SO I stick to identical settings that are one of two:
1024 x 576 Square Pixels DV PAL
Or
720 x 576 (1.46) DV PAL
Neither one leaves me with a clean image. Background layers are fine – JUST the fonts are getting pixelated.
The same issue is occurring on Livetype .mov files exported with the correct settings. No matter what I’ve tried I always end up back in the same place – with pixelated text.
Now I saw mentioned somewhere that pure black and white can cause issues with DV Pal when it comes to fonts? Is this true?
I am seriously at my wits end for what I can do to resolve this because it is VERY physically noticeable and yet I’ve never had this issue before having used similar graphics on CS3 many times before to no issue.
Any help?

UPDATE:
I got fed up of trying endless numbers of different effects, exported from Premiere and took the 2 projects as a .mov into final cut. I then tried the same graphics that refused to work in Premiere and they worked fine in Final Cut even though I used versions that were probably slightly off in some aspect anyway (I even had to stretch 1 of them and it was STILL fine).Why am I getting horrible graphics on Prem Pro suddenly? We’ve used premiere for years with no issue but the update to CS5 seems to have thrown the ability to make simple graphics work out the window :-S

What is your paused and playback resolution set at? If it’s set at anything less than “Full” (i.e. 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16) then your text won’t look sharp because PP is reducing the resolution to ensure smooth playback.
Also what is your player scale set to? If it’s on “Fit” depending on the resolution of your monitor then it may be scaling up the resolution to fill the canvas. Just set it to 100% so you see exactly what it looks like. It’s easy to change – just look underneath the video (in between the timecode markers) and you’ll see a drop down menu where you can select the scale of the player. If it’s on anything except 100% realize that you are seeing either an upscaled or downscaled version of your timeline.

Had it originally set to Fit but tested using 100% and also set to full resolution the whole time. I’ve done test exports to make sure its not the monitor as well but no matter where I play it, I get pixelation. I made a HD timeline just to test it out and despite being set to DV Pal settings (i.e. the original graphic size was 720 x 576 1.46 aspect ratio or 1024 x 576 square pixels) it looked BETTER in the HD timeline even when upscaled then it did in the SD timeline. There was no major pixelation in HD, just minor pixelation that made the edges not crisp.
