Presets for DSLR Footage
Posted by Nick Karner on March 13, 2012 at 11:15 pmHello. I recently bought the 7D and I have premiere cs4. I know I need to convert the footage, but I was curious as to what preset I should use for editing the footage in premiere. Was thinking of making it into an avi. But I can’t figure out what presets I should use? Help? Thanks!

March 13, 2012 at 11:37 pmCS4 does not handle H.264 in a mov wrapper very well.
I would consider NeoScene. Cineform will convert the files into HD avi’s and are visual lossless.

March 13, 2012 at 11:38 pmThanks, that’s why I’m converting them, but what preset should I use?

March 13, 2012 at 11:40 pmCineform comes with its own presets.
Or you can make a custom preset that matches the footage.

March 13, 2012 at 11:41 pmHi. Sorry, I think you misunderstood. Presets in Premiere. To clarify, I have absolutely no issue with converting. it’s all about what to set premiere to so I can edit it. Thanks very much.

March 13, 2012 at 11:44 pmInto what did you convert: resolution/codec?
You have to choose a preset that matches your footage .
If there is no preset then you make it yourself.———————————————–

March 13, 2012 at 11:50 pmI’m sorry, I thought AVI was the Codec. The video converter says XVID.

March 13, 2012 at 11:52 pmAvi is a container and Xvid is the codec.
Well you wont be able to edit that either.
Xvid is very high compressed soly for the purpose of watching and not editing.
Alas.
Cineform is your best option for CS4 or upgrade.———————————————–

March 13, 2012 at 11:54 pmWell, I hate to bother you further, but for future reference, when I use NeoScene, what codec should I set it to and then what preset would I use to edit in premiere? I guess that’s the most hypothetical way to answer that.
