Hi –

Does Flip4Mac not work with PPCS5.5? I really need to export a wmv file.

Hi Vagn,

As noted on the Flip4Mac features/requirements page (https://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/tech-specs.htm) it will work with:
– Compressor
– Episode
– MPEG Streamclip

So while the answer to your query is no, it will not work directly with PPro (which lacks support for the old Quicktime Export Components) you can download and use MPEG Streamclip for free. It’s a tool I can’t live without! https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

Select “Export to other format” and pick Windows Media from the format menu drop down and you’re all set.

Thanks PK. Yea Streamclip is my “go to” app too. Just frustrated that I need to use it with Adobe.

Actually, it’s more the other way around. Because Apple hasn’t made a 64-bit version of QuickTime, there is no direct way for the 64-bit Premiere Pro to interface with those old QuickTime export components.

Hi Todd,

I didn’t mean to insinuate it was a fault on Adobe’s part. It lacks support because they are “old” (I should have noted 32bit). Downright ancient really. Flip4Mac hasn’t changed in many years (we’ve had the same license and been at v2 for about 5!)

But thanks for clarifying that! Didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers.

No feathers ruffled. I just wanted to make sure that people knew where to make their requests—in this case to Apple for a 64-bit QuickTime.

Is there a way to export to .wmv format from the PPro timeline? Our clients like wmv’s for the approval/revision process and it’s a pain to export out a file and recompress in another program.

I can’t seem to find a way to make a .wmv in PPro or AME.

I’m running OSX 10.6.8

Yes, you can export WMV files from Premiere Pro on Windows. Not on Mac OS. To create a WMV file on Mac OS, you need to use something like Flip4Mac in QuickTime Pro to convert the file.
