    Hi everyone,

I’ve read some posts about Premiere Pro projects backups but none helped me with my problem exactly.
The point is: I want make a backup on my external HD and keep just the needed project files on my laptop HD.
    Which are these needed files?
I have a Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 running on a MAC Os 10.7.2
    The project have these directories:
    – Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save -(378 Mb)
    – Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files – (109 Gb)
    – Encoded Files – (0 byte)
    – Media Cache Files – (849 Mb)
    – my_project_file.prproj (55 Mb)
    – A directory that contains all my original photos, videos and audio files.

What is relevant to be kept?
What is the Preview Files directory purpose? I don’t set the “Use Preview” option when exporting my video because I don’t use the exactly sequence settings for it (I don’t know if it is the best practise). Do I need this directory?

    Thanks, Guilherme

    Hi Guilherme,

All you will need to restore a project is the project(s) file itself, and any media you brought in.

I would also recommend a clone backup of you OS drive so that you can quickly get back to work with plugins and up to date software, should that drive get corrupted get fail.

    Hi Vince,

    Thanks for the tips!
The “media I brought in” you mean my original photos and videos files?

I’m brazillian and passed 8 days with my wife in San Francisco last November! What a wonderful city!

Yes, any media attached to the project, I would also backup the auto-save files, you never know when they might come in handy.

PM me next you are in town, we’ll have a beer!
