    Hello!

    I am a switcher from FCP7 and I have a few questions.

I am used to working with tapeless media based projects. Generally I have 2 drives. A “Project” drive, which has everything I need to work with. And I have a backupdrive, which has back-ups of all the media, this sits on a shelf, in case of disaster.

My project drive has several folders. A main project folder, inside that is my “Footage”, Graphics, SFX/MUSIC, etc folders to stay orgranized. Generally I have a documents folder as well, with scripts, project files etc.

Premiere’s set up is different, and I find that I have save files, waveform caches, render files, all over the place….Could someone give me a quick description of the best way to set up my edits for use with PP 5.5?

    Thanks,

    -ben

Placing everything in one drive is not a good idea. PP performance will be increased using dedicated drives for each content. You´ll get the best performance having a main drive for only the operating system, second drive for pagefile, media cache and previews, and the fastest drive (Adobe recommends Raid 0 for HD editing) for media (footage) and proyects (.prproj). It would be perfect if you could have a fourth drive for exports and renders.

Thank you very much, however that doesn’t really answer my question. Of course my OS and programs are on one separate drives, and all my media and renders are on others. I always back up my save files on usb drives, dvds, and I also email them to myself.

Basically, I want to create one drive that I can i use between my two systems, so I don’t have to keep re-linking between two computers, or anyone else’s computer….With all the extra files and folders that Premiere creates there.

    Thanks

Ok, sorry i misunderstood you. Perhaps you´ll find usefull making backups in this shared drive with Proyect Manager (Proyect menu/Proyect Manager), selecting the copy all media in new folder option you´ll have all the necessary files to rebuild the proyect in other machine.

I make a folder for each project on the media drive. All associated files generated by the app go there. (I started doing this as a freelance FCP editor: Have Drive, Will Travel.) Even the project file goes there, with alias calling that one. I back up the project on the sys drive. Two big benefits: 1. It’s callable from any host with the app, and 2. It’s very easy to clean once the project ends. There’s no relink issue, since everything’s “local”. Very convenient, and I’ve never had a moment’s problem.
