    System : Windows 7 (64-bit Operating System)
    Processor : Intel Core i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz

Editing Software : Adobe Premiere CS5
Authoring Tool : Adobe Encore CS5

    Camera : Sony HDR-AX2000
    Video Format : AVCHD (.mts)

I captured a few minutes of video. This is just to test it with my system and software.

I uploaded the video to Adobe Premiere CS5 and choose the right sequence setting that match the video format and setting. I just added some text label.

    Export to : H.264 Blu-ray
    Codec used: MainConcept H.264 Video

I burned it through Adobe Encore CS5 and use Verbatim DVD. When I played the movie, it seems that there’s losses on the video. It was somewhat pixelated (I see pixels in it). I was expecting to be a smooth one and expected that it will wow me (like Hollywood movies or somewhat close), but it did not.

    Questions:
    1. I only use the available CODEC from Adobe Premiere CS5 (see Codec used above). Is this CODEC have losses? Should I purchase a CODEC that will help me to solve my problem? If so, what is the best one? OR the one that is good but not expensive?

    2. When I use the Adobe Encore CS5, I set the following:
    Authoring Mode: Blu-ray
    Codec : H.264
    Burn into : Verbatim DVD-R
Is there some losses here as well? Double losses (exporting from Premiere and burning through Encore)?

I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you.

I’m not sure if you can burn a blu-ray project on a DVD with Encore. Maybe you burned a normal SD DVD that is specced to 720×576 PAL or 720×480 NTSC.

Yes you can burn BluRay content to dvd but only as an iso with a 3rd party burnsoftware. However the dvd does not play in all BluRay players or can have issues.

Best is to use a BluRay Disk if you want HD.

“Best is to use a BluRay Disk if you want HD.”

Yep. The specs are made for a reason.

I will try blu-ray and see what happen. I will report the result afterwards. Thank you guys for responding to my message.

Build your timeline in Premiere at your cameras native resolution…save the project.
Open Encore and “import as timeline” Work your way to your premiere project and select it. If there is more than 1 timeline in the project it will as which one you want to bring in.

In Encore change your transcode settings to highest possible BluRay.

From here i would still build a BluRay Image. (don’t go straight to disc) Better chance of failure in my experience going straight to disc…plus easier to do multiple copies if you have an image ready to go.

After the image is done, tell encore to build disc, and point it to your image as its source.

There will always be compression in the world of digital video. Your camera is recording compressed video, the H264 is compressed by its nature…pretty tough to avoid, but can be minimized.

    Thank you guys.

I did your suggestions and finally I burned my first High Definition movie. It was awesome! Surely, I didn’t think that burning an HD into a Blu-ray disc will make the difference. I thought that if your movie is too large to fit into a SL or DL DVDs that you burn it to Blu-ray disc. Now, I am confident to make movies in HD. It surely also help build my confidence.

So thank you so much, guys. I am glad that I joined this forum. Many thanks to people who contribute not only their knowledge, but also the time and most especially the desire to help others.

    Thank you so much.
