How do I get clips to play back smoothly that have been stablized in AE? I have to play them several times to get the render cache done before it plays smoothly. This happens everytime I open the project, it has to go through the clips several times before I get smooth play back. Is there some way to keep it playing correctly? This happens regardless of what the playback settings command is set at.

It gives me a yellow line and it only renders red lines. Using a certified Nvidia 3000m card, 16 gig of RAM and a 2820q i7 processor.

Ron. make sure the Work Area Bar (right above the timeline) covers the clips you need rendering, then select Rend All Work Area. That should do it. If for some weird reason it doesn’t, this workaround will. Place the video effect “Fast Blur” set to 0 on your clip. It wont change a thing, but it will force a render. The first option should really work.

Just setting the range and telling it to render the work area did the job. Coming from FCP I am still getting used to the slightly different commands. Overall I really like the application and am now fairly comfortable with it. Learning After Effects is next.

I recently made the switch as well. You are right. There are lots of little differences between them. This book helped orient me and serves as an ongoing reference. I highly recommend it!

There’s more information about rendering preview file here, including suggestions for mapping the command for rendering entire work area to a keyboard shortcut.
