The transitions that come with Premiere are the lamest of the lame, are there really no 3rd party plugin transitions I can purchase? good grief, adobe makes this great product but sticks us with these lame transitions? Really?!

Boris Red 5.0 64 bit is my answer to the lack of creative, different looking transitions. It has a good library of presets which are a jumping off points for your own creativity. Good GUI with lots of options and controls and filters. Its is out now for PC and in the future for Mac. I searched around a lot and this stands out as the most
powerful tool around for making transitions that work very well with Premiere Pro 5.5

I totally agree with this- I’ve been using Premiere since version 5 (Premiere 5, not Premiere Pro 5), and the transitions have basically stayed the same all this time. (although, dip to black and dip to white were nice additions).

This is one area that really needs a facelift…

You can make your own transitions, such as in the way described here:
    https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2011/08/25/using-effects-as-transitions/

In general, for the past few versions, we’ve really been focusing on the core of the application, and trying to create the best, fastest, most stable editor possible. When something like additional transitions comes up for consideration, we find—when asking lots of editors—that they’d rather that we put more into these foundational features than into flashy novelty transitions that can be created either by the editor himself or by a third-party plug-in developer.

If you disagree and want to elevate the creation of new transitions in our priority list, then please submit a feature request:

BTW, we did add the new Film Dissolve transition in Premiere Pro CS5.5.

Here’s a popular transition. Easily done within Premiere.

I recently purchased one of the Vitascene packages from ProDad as I needed something different for a promo piece. The available transitions are pretty interesting – not cheesy. Worked out well and the clients are happy. Here is a link:

Yes the lack of decent soft transitions is pretty bad.

But a worse situation for Mac users is that under Lion, the eyedropper function is completely broken and does not work on ANY effects including native Adobe or Boris that require colour-sampling, whether it be chroma keying or any type of colour correction. This was discovered weeks ago but still no fix for 5.5.1

Thanks for the tutorial Ann, but unfortunately, something that takes 4 minutes to do when it could just as easily be done with the drop of a transition in 3 seconds doesn’t sit well with me as “easily done.” The fact that someone would even have to go to the extent you have had to to create what is one of the most basic transitions in editing really shows the how horrible and lacking Adobe is when it comes to filters and transitions, especially on the Mac side.

Cliff, did you read my entry earlier in this thread? Boris Red 5 for Mac will be released (PC is out) soon and has the power to make just about any kind of transition you need.
