Audio problem–audio tracks contain only STATIC
Premiere Pro CS4 — Windows 7
I’ve imported ACVHD 1080p 24 video into Premiere. The audio presetsample rate for that project setting is 48000 hz. When I play the clips in Premiere, the audio tracks contain only STATIC. However, when I play the same .mts clips outside of Premiere using VLC Media Player, the audio tracks are fine. So it seems to me some setting in Premiere is the problem.
Does anyone know a way to remedy this static issue? Thanks!

Make sure your sequence matches your footage.
Make use of the New Item icon.
And let the clips finish indexing and conforming before doing anything else.
Delete clips restart comp and import again.———————————————–

Hi, I’ve never used the “new item” icon. I have CS4. I see that I have the New Item icon at the bottom of the project window in CS4, but does your suggestion re: the New Item icon work in CS4? If so, could you please explain how to use it. I swear, I have looked all over trying to find some instructions on how to use the New Item icon and can’t find anything…just a lot of forum entries with people saying, “Use the New Item icon.” I see that the New Item icon has a drop down menu which is self-explanatory, make new sequence, etc. But nothing that would interpret footage.
Also, if the original audio was different than 48000 hz, would that cause static?

This is what a sample clip’s “Properties” tells me in Premiere:
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz – compressed – Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz – 32 bit floating point – Stereo

Ok missed the CS4 part, no new item feature.

I believe I’ve discovered the problem. The camcorder is a brand new Sony that generates a sound file called LPCM, and I’ve been told Premiere cannot yet handle this type of file. hmmmm
Will seek other solutions. Someone else told me the sound files can be converted (possibly using Soundbooth), while maintaining their link to the vid files.

You may have to re-link manually but yes, convert the audio files with another program, convert to 48k, stereo, .wav

I’ve learned I can resolve the issue by upgrading to Premiere Pro CS5 which I will do today. Apparently, CS5 handles this type of audio file perfectly. Thanks for everyone’s help.
