totally stumped – 8 min video in media player, 6 min 29 in everything else?!
hi all,
I have been asked to convert an mpeg into wmv for use in powerpoint. When I play it in windows media player (windows 7) it is 8 mins 5 sec.
When I import it into premiere, after effects, virtualdub, soundbooth.. it shows as 6 min 29 seconds and is way out of sync.
If I slow it down to 80% its almost in sync. I could probably play around with the speed and get it lined up right, but why bother as the sound will run out at 6 mins 29 seconds leaving the final minute and a half with no audio!
I have been totally stumped and this is the first place I always think to come….
Please help!

Maybe it’s being interpreted as the incorrect frame rate inside the adobe apps?
How did you convert it to WMV? Or are you talking about the MPEG?
What version of Adobe Products are you using?
WMV format is pretty outdated…. Powerpoint is pretty outdated…

trust me i know its out dated I hate it.. but not everyone shares my hate!
Its showing as 25fps in the panel on the left which is the same as the project, it is an odd frame size though (920×720 or something)
Its an mpeg which doesnt work in ppt I would like the finished file to play in ppt and i have found in the past wmv is best for that..
im using premiere cs5

Hmmm. Strange. Can you bring it into AE and get the correct duration?
– Perhaps if that comes in properly there, export as Uncompressed first then use that as a Master for the WMV via AME?– JB

tried that and its the shorter duration in AE too!
Glad it stumped somebody else and not just me… any other ideas?

we need more details. Can you copy the clip properties from Premiere into a post?
When you say is’ “out of sync” what do you mean? Out of sync with what?

When I say out of sync I mean that the picture and sound to not align when played in premiere. It’s like a badly dubbed movie that’s about a minute out of sync! (haven’t checked exactly HOW out of sync it is)

no i dragged the mpeg containing the audio and video into premiere/after effects
