  • A strange problem with M2T files

I have a problem which I do not seem to understand or resolve.

I captured video on set using Adobe OnLocation (Mac). This software captured the files in m2t format.
I then brought the files over to my iMac and tried to import it into premiere where I got an error saying the file format is not supported.

This is strange since I have worked with m2t files on this mac before. I recently upgraded to Lion so I thought that might be the source of the problem.

But when I brought the files over to my macbook which is also running Lion I was able to bring the files into premiere with no problem what so ever.

Does anybody have a clue how to resolve this very annoying problem without me having to convert the files?

Try repairing disk permissions, let us know.

I did that, restarted my computer and I still get that same error message.
    Any other ideas? 🙂

My older version of Premiere Pro 1.5.1 will generate a m2t file when you export to tape, however, an m2t file reintroduced into PP will not be recognised. But, an m2t clip can be imported into Premiere Elements 4 and accepted, then it can be Exported to Movie as an Microsoft avi , uncompressed and opened up in PP, this is on a PC.

I am going to guess you updated Lion with a preinstalled version of PPro.

You might need to re-run the install process to get all codecs working again. Lion’s quicktime might have dislodged something in the MPEG importer.

All I had to do was re-install the entire Adobe Production Suite and the problem solved itself.
Can’t tell you how it happend. Only that it worked…

    Thanks for all your help.

It’s always good to know a problem was solved and how it was done. Thanks for the reply.
