Exporting to Digital Betacam
Hey Everyone,
I’ve read through some posts touching on this, but none exactly answered my questions. I’ve been using Premier for several years, though never in a professional manner, so I suppose it’s time to get learning!
I need to output a film I made from Premier CS4 to Digital Betacam and I need some help with the encoding/compression specifics. Here are the basic details:
1. Shot 4:3 on Panasonic DVX100B at 23.97 fps (24PA)
2. Edited on a native 24P timeline in Premier CS4 (approx. 1 hour in length)
3. No in-depth CGI, but it has simple title work, it is a fully subtitled film (with a sans-serif, fairly thick font to reduce flicker), and it has moderate color correction done throughoutNow, the questions:
1. When I export, what would be the best option to output to? DV AVI @ 23.97fps? DV AVI @ 29.97fps? Quicktime? Uncompressed Microsoft AVI?
2. If the best option is Uncompressed Microsoft AVI, should I use the V210 or UYVY encoding option? What’s the difference? I know it has something to do with 8 bits vs. 10 bits, but I’m not even sure what that means either!
3. Can I just output to a file on a hard drive and give it to the post production house (is that what it’s called?) to transfer over to DigiBeta? Or, should I output it to a Mini Dv tape and give that to them? Or, is there another better option?
4. Are there any important questions I can ask the post production house? Will I normally be able to watch a copy on one of their DigiBeta monitors? (I obviously don’t have one as I don’t know much of anything at all about the format!) Also, what’s the best way to find a good place that has these services?I’m living in Asia right now, so it’s going to be difficult enough with the language barrier to get everything to function smoothly, so I need to know what to ask!
