I just bought a 3.2 Ghz i7, 6-core computer with 12 GB ram. I was planning on getting an AVCHD camcorder, but from what I’m reading on this forum, even this computer may not have the power to do AVCHD adequately.

Or, is it that most of you guys are video professionals and do a lot more to your video than I would? I mainly do sports video for a small high school. We use a lot of Digital Juice, which sometimes uses track mattes and transparencies, etc. (I have also purchased the new Ready2Go project templates for Premiere, which can include a fair amount of video tracks). I almost never do color correction and similar effects that you guys seem to do all the time.

So, for my amateur use, is my system up to it?

That computer will handle it fine. I shoot 1080p AVCHD and I’ve had to edited it on a i3 3Ghz Laptop with 8GbRam without Hardware Mercury Engine while off site. Premiere Pro handles it fine. I tried on a Core2 Quad and it was still possible.

i7 with 8Gb+ Ram ,Nvidia Supported card and fast scratch disk will eat AVCHD fine.
