Creating a slide show in Premiere Pro used to be so easy. Then I upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and bought a hot rod computer. Here’s my problem. I imported a couple hundred pics off a DVD from a client. I imported the links into Premiere. Before I can even start manipulating them, the links start getting confused. Sometimes the thumbnail changes but the images stay the same. Sometimes the thumbnails are correct but the images are wrong. And sometimes only the image name is correct but everything else is wrong. Here’s what I’ve tried: Taking the bad images off-line and relinking them. Never helps. Moving the offending images to another file and relinking them. Never helps. Moving the images from one drive to another. Doesn’t help. Move the project file to different drives. No luck. Re-importing the images off the disc. Helps for a while but some of the image links seem to corrupt eventually. Broke the images up into smaller folders. No difference. Reimporting the images off the disc, resizing the image and changing the name of the file. Seems to help a little but there are still problems. I’m working on a PC with an i7 chip and lots of RAM and an adobe certified CPU. I’ve been using Premiere for over ten year and I’m baffled. I’ve used images in other productions on this computer with this configuraton and never had this problem. BUT I’ve never done a slide show where I’m using this many images. Your help is appreciated. (I must say though, when it does work EVERYTHING renders on the fly. I do love that!)

Thanks Todd. I think I did get the answer I was looking for (haven’t tested it yet). If ANYONE is planning on doing a slide presentation using Premiere Pro CS5 and lots of images, I suggest reading the following thread all the way to the bottom: https://forums.adobe.com/message/3586244#3586244
If you don’t, you’re in for a lot of heartache. There’s an obscure default setting in Preferences on the Media menu having to do with writing XMP ID’s to files. I recommend turning it off as suggested in the above thread on the Adobe site at least when doing slide shows. I’ve been through many tutorials on Premiere (Lynda.com, Adobe, etc.) and never heard anything about this. I’ve even taught editing using Premiere Pro at the college level and have never encountered this. Again, read the above thread before starting a any kind of project with lots of imported images. THANKS AGAIN TODD!
