  best way to export for dvd?

  hi there.

  i have a 13 min clip that i need to output as dvd format.
  footage is 1920 X 1080 23.98fps ntsc

  i have tried match to settings and it comes up with a mpeg file but when i use encore to create an image file to later burn with imgburn – the quality is loss?

  just wondering whether anyone could give me some pointers about what settings are used for dvd exporting without losing quality??

  Your source is HD, and DVD’s are SD, so quality loss is unavoidable. You cannot ‘match settings’ since there is no such thing as a HD DVD. Your DVD will be 720 x 480, period.

  At that short a duration though, you’ll be able to export to an MPEG2-DVD at a high data rate, around 8Mbps, make sure ‘Use Maximum Render Quality’ is checked, and make your ‘Quality’ setting ‘5’. We prefer CBR for programs that will obviously fit onto a single DVD encoded to the highest data rate.

  thanks for the response Steve. I just wondered if there was a way to shrink the high quality footage somehow onto a DVD.

  Just had another thought…

  ive seen tv series that shrink hours of shows on a dual layer dvd but the quality is quite sharp… does anyone know how this is done? is it using avi format?

  No. DVD spec is MPEG2…nothing else.
