My footage is completely pixelated?
Hi there,
I’m using Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 to edit some amateur stuff that was shot on mini DV. I only got the DVD of said footage, so I ripped it from the DVD and imported it into APP using the DV PAL (I live in Ireland) settings, but it came out looking pixelated, both when I imported as AVI and as MPEG. I’ve tried every kind of combination of resolution and frame rate just to see if anything worked but to no avail! I’m not very familiar with APP so it could be a very simple problem (I hope!) Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

How are you ripping the files? Converting to what format, codec, file size? You may be able to copy the VOB files to your HDD and rename them with a .mpg extension, then try importing those. That may save a transcoding step since the files have already gone from DV to mpeg, because if you are then transcoding to another highly compressed codec, that will just be adding to the problem.

I just tried that there but it didn’t work I’m afraid! I’ve tried importing the footage into almost every setting APP has (excepting the HD ones), and I’ve tried importing as MPEG, AVI and Quicktime files. I’ve also tried to import it into Final Cut Pro just to see if there was a problem with my APP system but it didn’t work right there either. I think I’m just going to get the original mini DV tapes and digitise the files again onto my own computer. Thanks very much for your suggestion though!
