cs5 mercury playback on an iMac ATI Radeon HD 4850
This mind sound a longshot but I will try anyways if somebody else has done it,
In the discussion after the video somebody has added his videocard into the list of adobes supported cards on mercury playback engine –
https://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cs5/optimize-a-computer-for-mercury-playback-engine/I’m wandering if any of you has done that on an iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4850. I know it’s not supprted by Adobe but it’s not completely lousy VCard and mercury engine goes wasted if we won’t atleast try. It might get a little hot, but you just have to monitor the temperature won’t you?
Anyone tried this on a Mac:
Want to make Mercury available with your GPU card ??
[disclaimer – try at your own risk. dont do this if you dont know what all this is about. And it may make your sytem unstable/broken. But for me – it worked wonderfully]
[i have Win7ultimate64 on a cheap asus board, amd 64 dual5200, nvidia geforce8600gt – and i hate people saying You cant do that, without explaining why]1) open the file c:\program files\adobe\adobe premiere pro cs5\cuda_supported_cards.txt.
add your video card. mine is GeForce 8600 GT (name got from Device Manager).
close & save.
2) open nVidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings
-> Add -> (browse: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5) -> select Adobe Premiere Pro.exe -> OK
(i only get Premiere CS4 listed – so i chose this. you may have it listed already.)
select MultiDisplay/mixed-gpu acceleration = and set it to Compatibility performance mode. close all.
3) reboot
Thats it. Now in Premiere Pro CS5 -> project -> project settings -> general -> Video Rendering -> you can choose Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration.Like i said. This worked for me AND it really works. 🙂
