  Exporting H.264 on Premiere CS5

  Looking to export files in HD.
  My storage space is limited, but I need to keep it in good quality.
  (I’m shooting MP4 files with Sony EX cams).
  Can anyone help with the right parameters to go HD pal h.264?

  It will help if you tell us your purpose – are the files destined for the web, for archiving, for later editing?

  Have a look at the HDTV presets.

  Hi Jeff,
  The main purpose is archiving edited material. I might need to use footage again for future editing.

  The H.264 encoding presets are basically for delivery and are very highly compressed. Though the result might look good, not meant for editing, using Long-GOP structure and such.

  You might consider exporting to the DVCPRO HD codec or something for later editing. I’m fortunate that I’ve worked with Matrox hardware for years, so have always simply exported to a Matrox codec, so not real familiar with other options.

  DVCProHD is a good format, but Sony’s HDcamEX is full raster (1920×1080) whereas DVCProHD is 1280×1080.

  I might try simple trimmed project to archive from the project manager.
