Monitor brightness for video only
Hi all,
This is my first post, so while I’m here – hello everyone!
I work in a school where we have a computer room with approximately 20 PCs running Premiere Pro. A couple of the monitors display video in Premiere Pro as being incredibly dark, although on the camera and on the rest of the monitors in the room the footage looks fine for brightness and contrast.
The brightness and contrast are set the same on ALL monitors, and the brightness and contrast are completely fine for general purposes on ALL monitors, but capturing and playing back video in Premiere Pro seems to create this issue with a couple of the monitors.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? It’s genuinely got me stumped.

Hi Rob,
Monitors lose brightness over time, this was true for CRT, and it is for LCDs, although it is much improved for newer LED displays.
Most graphics cards also have their own brightness adjustment as part of the control panel.
You could start by creating as new Bar and Tone clip in Premiere and calibrating the pluge bar using brightness/contrast.

I have found out that the monitors are only two years old, so I am hoping there is a calibration solution to this, and they’re not all dying already!

Quick update – the monitor brightness is calibrated correctly on two new machines (the room I work in has about 20 monitors in total), but there seems no way of fixing any graphics card issue or other type of fault with the main batch of monitors I am working with.
I have now correctly re-calibrated the new monitors and will check all video material on this monitor, before using the others knowing that it really looks okay!
Bit of a pain, but unless you have any ideas I can’t find any alternatives.
