Exporting HDV/(mpeg sequence) to .AVI format
I shoot with a Sony HDV1000, 1080i. I use Premiere Pro CS5. I’m required to provide .AVI files for broadcasting, which I’ve previously been providing by down converting from the camera to Premiere Pro and editing an SD sequence until I realized the need to do my post editing and effects on an HD timeline so that I can use it for other media outlets such as youtube and et cetera.
Here’s my issue: I have an .mpeg native sequence (HDV) and I do my post edits and effects/transitions/graphics on this sequence and I proceed to export with the intention of spitting out a NTSC DV .AVI file. I open File > Export > Media
Format: Microsoft AVI
Preset: CustomUnder the Video Tab:
Video Codec: DV NTSC
Aspect: D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)
And then I use Render at Maximum Depth and Use Maximum Render QualityAnd then I A.) Attempt to Queue the file into Adobe Media Encoder (fails- is using MPE possible in this situation?) then B.) I choose Export (succeeds but hogs precious time on Premiere Pro that I could be using for other projects). I’m not sure why the two different export settings other then one locks Premiere Pro until it’s finished and the other doesn’t.
So basically I need a HDV 1080i30 sequence, the end result to be an .AVI, AND the ability to Queue to an external encoder (which utilizes 64 bit as well as GPGPU) so that I can move on to the next project without having to wait for the export to finish.
Is this possible?
SIDE QUESTIONS REGARDING TIME SAVINGS IN THIS ENDEAVOR (may require different post but most of you can probably answer all this in a simple few sentences)
On a particular sequence that I’m finished making my post edits on: my Sequence Settings are set to Render at Maximum Depth and Use Maximum Render Quality and I decide to Render Entire Work Area before exporting which takes a hell-of-a-long time and ON TOP of that I want to Export using Render at Maximum Depth and Use Maximum Render Quality as well as Use Previews (which serves Rendering the Entire Work Area beneficial before exporting), here is my question and please bare with me, it may get complicated:
Do I have to use the Maximum Render Quality during both the Work-Area Render(pre-render?) and the Export to have a quality video or can I use ONE of the Use Maximum Render Quality settings (I’m guessing during export would be best)?
Whats the difference in the end-result video quality if my Sequence Settings do not enable Use Maximum Render Quality, my sequence timeline is pre-rendered (green-line) and I Export using Use Maximum Render Quality and Use Previews
Versus
All the other different combinations…Of course it’s always about the best quality video in the least amount of time and overhead. Time is money
