Hi. I am editing a movie in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 in which I have brought in uploaded footage as well as .avi files from previously aired footage on the web. I am also using stills. I have varied how I stretch clips (sometimes uniform and sometimes not) and I have used the motion feature to zoom in or pan across still images to make them look more like moving video. Because of this, I have filled the entire area of the timeline viewer. In order to fill the screen properly, the footage I took from the web had titles on it that fall outside of the safe areas. In the meantime, I need to add more titles to the rest of the footage.

I was wondering if the following would work: Once I am done with my movie, I was planning on bringing the whole thing into a new sequence and resizing the entirety into the action safe area (or poss the title safe area) and then add my text overlays in the title safe area. What I am wondering is if I do this, will some viewers see the “black” around the image on their televisions once I burn to dvd?

    Thank you.

The short answer is yes in many cases. The safe area on new TV sets is nearly non existent, especially with sets that support 1:1 mapping, but it will still vary often up to 10%.

You could get creative and add grunge on the sides, or something to fill in.
