  vob into premier cs3 ( renamed to mpg – but importing only the video with no sound )

  hey all

  I want to import VOB file into project
  i chengd it from VOB to MPG ( only by renamed it with out convert )
  but when i import the file its only importing the video with out the sound

  now i’m using premier c3
  i had premier 2 and i did’nt have this problem
  what can i do to let premier c3 accept the sound too

  Have you verified that there is sound in the file to begin with?

  If the audio is ac3 you need to copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from Encore and paste it in the root of Premiere.

  yes, the sound in the file is good and workink well. By the way, if i’m converting the file in convertor software ( to: AVI or MPG or wmv ) so I do get the sound into the premier. still, I would like to solve this problem to import VOB fils only by changing the name from video.VOB to video.mpg

  Have you ever used a VOB file with CS3 before this?

  I’ve never used VOBs in Premiere Pro myself (I usually take the DVD apart in Vegas and output a more conventional video file…), but I seem to remember that official VOB support is a relatively recent thing…like maybe CS4 recent?

  I’m not an expert on what makes a VOB file different from your regular ole’ MPEG2 file, so Ann’s recommendation as it applies to why it would take the video and not the audio seems like the first thing I’d follow up on.

  I would strike a “guess” that the audio used in the VOB file is not PCM Stereo or Dolby Digital or MPEG-II type stream.

  If the audio is 5.1 that could affect CS3 ability to understand it. If the audio is THX that will not be understood as Adobe don’t have any THX export ability, there won’t be any import either.

  I have found that if you can open the file in VLC player you can export the audio out to a WAV and then link and sync it in PPro for further editing.
