  • Best format to save files in for Final Cut Editing

    Hello All,

What is the best format to save files in using the Adobe Media Encoder for further editing on a Final Cut Pro Machine? (I know that there is a way to save an edit but it seems that mpeg files made in Premiere Pro do not bring over the sound into Final cut Pro)

The best format would be Quicktime Animation or uncompressed. Both will require some fast drives on the FCP side, but they are lossless. Other options for smaller size would be Motion Jpeg, PNG, or even H.264.

If you have FC Studio 3 you can also use ProRes4444 (uncompressed) or ProResHQ.

I would never use GOP formats like H264 ore MPEG4 because they don’t run stable.

Thanks for the information guys. My Final Cut associates inform me that the video is importing into the program just fine with no issues.
