I recently got CS5 because CS4 wouldn’t support .mov files.
I can import the files and the program recognizes them, but when it comes to playing them in my workstation it lags and freezes. The audio runs smoothly but the visual is being a pain. I have tried lowering the resolution so I could at least edit to some measure but no luck.

Not sure what to do now. Do I have to uncompress my files or is there another way?

    Thanks.

What is your computer specs, hdd setup, and file specs you are trying to edit? Editing uncompressed req’s very fast hdd read/write rates let alone a grungy CPU.

Not being able to read .mov files could be the result of a combination of several things – improper codecs installed, software and/or hardware. Remember that .mov is only a container format, probably you mean that these files actually contain h.264 compressed footage, like that from the Canon DSLRs.

If anything, CS5 works miracles if you combine with the right hardware, like an array of fast HDDs (at least 7200rpm), fast CPU, at least 8GB of internal memory and an nVidia Graphics card (3800, 4800 or 5600).

If you depend on your workstation for your income, don’t go cheap on the specs. But that’s my philosophy.

    Hey there!

Im having the same problem with CS6. Ive tried many things. Im pretty sure is not about hardware; I’ve worked with XML files from a C300 and MP4 and everything works fine, but if I drop a .MOV I get this very annoying lag on the playback.

    Have you found any solution?

    Thanks!!!
