FCP5, AE7, HDV and Automatic Duck Pro Import AE 3.03 trouble
Just purchased Automatic Duck’s Pro Import AE 3.03 pluggin so I’m brand new at this …
All the project footage was captured from HDV tape into Final Cut 5. The sequence is set to HDV 1080i60 and it displays correctly … stretching the 1440×1080 frame to 16×9.
If I import one of the Quicktime movies captured by FCP directly into AE 7 with a composition set as HDV 1080/29.97 1440×1080 and the pixel aspect ratio as HDV 1080/DVCPro HD, I’m able to use the “Toggle Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction” button to view the image in 16×9 full frame. Glorious!!!
However, when I do an Automatic Duck XML export of the sequence from FCP and imported it to AE 7 I have trouble. The composition opens with video settings of HDTV 1080/29.97 1920×1080 Square Pixel. The video looks like 1440×1080 with black bars stuck on both sides to fill the 1920×1080 space. The Pixel Aspect Ratio button doesn’t seem to do anything. Changing the composition setting to to HDV 1080 1440×1080 doesn’t get rid of the black bars on either side of the image.
What am I missing? How do I get the HDV footage to fill the 16×9 frame as it should?

I’m pretty sure this worked in AE 6.5 because AE 6.5 wasn’t actually “smart” about HDV so what we did worked fine. I believe that the changes in 7.0 to accommodate HDV broke it. It used to be that even though the video actually is 1440×1080 AE would see it as 1920×1080.
It is on our list to readdress HDV for AE 7.0.
What if you both change your comp settings of the imported comp so that it is what AE thinks is an “HDV” comp AND also muck with the footage interpretation? The workaround probably lies in a combination of those
two areas.
__________________________I’m still scratching my head over this one. Anyone have a work flow that works for them? So far “mucking” with settings hasn’t done it for me.
