Premiere Pro problems
I have moved to Premiere Pro from Sony Vegas Movie Studio and expected a vast improvement, not so sofar. The Video Transitions are very jumpy yet with SVMS were smooth. The timeline transport bar flickers quite badly at times, Adobe could not sort this. I am having great difficulty in using Premiere Pro with an AVI file from my Traveler DV5000 Aerial Vieo camera, when I work on a project and save it then open it up again no video shows but I do get sound. I need to open the source file and start it playing then start the project playing, there are no thumbnails in the timeline just black. Any attempts at exporting result in the first frame as a still and full sound and any credits.
Sorry if this is a ramble but to me this was a considered purchase and at present it is pretty much useless.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Sounds like a graphics card driver issue. Post more details about your card.

My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT which I was told was suitable for video editing.

Could be the driver version needs an update or maybe a roll back.

The drivers were the original drivers so no rollback, I did upgrade to the latest drivers but no change I’m afraid.

The flickering bar is due to Aero in Windows.
Set it to classic view.
If i am not misstake your ‘avi’ is mpeg4.
To be sure run it through GSpot.

If so you probably better choose the XDCam EX preset. -

Thank you so much, that flickering bar has been annoying me for months. Reinstalling at least 3 times, hours of troubleshooting from Adobe followed and nothing. Now it’s fixed, I can’t believe it. Haven’t checked the AVI file yet but I will.

PS. You wouldn’y be able to tell me why the quality is so much better in the Source monitor than the Project monitor.

The source shoes the clip in it’s original frame, resolution, etc. The program monitor is showing the dimensions of the timeeline. If there is a mismatch the program will look different. Also be sure they are both set to high quality preview (right click the panel).
