mixing 60i footage into a 50i timeline
Hi all,
I have recently purchased a new camera to go with my FX1 as a spare and an NTSC one has arrived. I’m very disappointed. Could someone explain the problems I might experience by mixing 50i and 60i footage in the same timeline? It will be relatively rarely that they’re mixed, but would importing 60i footage into premiere and outputting it as 50i hd mpeg cause any significant quality loss?
Please, any help would be much appreciated as I need to decide whether to send it back!

I assume you are in PAL land.
To much hassle editing ntsc in pal.
So if possible send it back. -
yeah I’m in pal land. Where exactly does the hassle lie as I’ve just edited in a pal timeline and the only disadvantage I can see is that its going to take 50 mins to export 4 mins of HD video where as normally it’d take about 15 mins.
Is that the only disadvantage?
In the end I negotiated a 25% refund and kept it. To be honest I’ll not edit footage shot on this camera too often, its more to film short videos and keep them on an external hard drive for tv playback, but I’m still keen to find out the problems with using NTSC footage in a PAL timeline.
Any more advice would be much appreciated

to answer my above question, the time to export is not the only disadvantage.. the outputted file is unwatchable.
I think the mpeg itself is fine and when I open it in canopus procorder it says its 25 fps, however when authored to a dvd in the way i usually do I get hugely jerky motion, jagged edges etc, all of the old classic problems…
I have premiere and procorder.. can anyone recommend a way of getting NTSC footage edited and outputted to a high quality PAL dvd that wont look horrid?!
