I am losing too much work when PPro crashes.

As I undrestand it, Premiere creates an incremental project backup file when the system auto-saves (placed in the Auto-Save folder).

However, if you do a manual save, this just updates the original project file. If the system crashes, you have lost everything since the last auto-save. Sometimes – when the project file is corrupted by the crash, and inexplicably even when you manage to reopen the original project file, everything is lost from that session (since PPro was opened), and you must resort to an auto-save version.

Last week, PPro apparently crashed while creating the auto-save backups. I found five temp files alongside the five auto-save versions, and everything (auto-save, temp files, and original project) was corrupt and wouldn’t open. I was basically screwed, and had to start a project over after investing a week of work into it.

Now, of course, I’m manually saving a project copy every time I do a manual save.

I would like to see Adobe offer the option of automatically creating a copy of the project file when manually saving (prehaps in a different folder than the auto-save folder). If it takes a few more seconds, I can live with that.

I simply want the peace of mind that when I save a project manually, I am ensuring that I will have an intact and up-to-date file to resort to if PPro crashes later.

It appears that PPro crashes, especially in CS4, are a frequent fact of life. Adobe should do everything possible to prevent lost work. I find the current design unacceptable.

Auto save is just fine but the problem is it overwrites itself after so many time (you can set this in your preferences). Also you have a chance of having all corrupt auto saves. Because of this overwriting system.
Yes you can save manually but also save a copy to another disk at the end of the day and give these projects a unique name.

I am a lover of CS4 . . . except for what you have just described … CRASHING …. This great program has this great flaw … what a shame … ADOBE must indeed fix this crashing problem in CS5 if it intends on maintaining a base of loyal customers.

I reboot every 2 to 3 hours, which has helped ….
