I have just changed from using Premiere Pro to Premiere Pro CS4 together with a HDV camera. I am having problems with the playback in the source and monitor windows. The old version allowed playback via the Firewire connection to an external device. I cannot find this option in CS4. Do I need some extra plugin?
The only choice available is the Adobe media player, but this does not play the video correctly. It is very jerky and keeps on jumping back about 1 second. It is impossible to edit. My PC is fast enough to play HDV with other players outside of Premiere. Even the Adobe Media Player works fine as a stand alone program, but not as the embedded player.
I have seen some other posts with similar problems, but no solutions!
This problem makes this program useless for me at the moment.

How about listing your hardware specs, especially hard drives. Any virus scanner installed?

In the meantime I have managed to solve the problem. The Audio Hardware setting was incorrect. I have changed the Default Device to “Adobe Default Windows Sound” and now the playback runs correctly.
“Premiere Pro WDM Sound” the default setting does not seem to work on my system.

I am very dissapointed that the playback via Firewire has been removed as I am used to using it to view the results from transitions etc on a TV via an external Firewire to analog box.
