  Speech Transcript

  When I first switched over to PPro CS4 as my primary NLE, I tested the speech-to-text function. It did do the audio file transcription and the text appeared in the metadata window under speech transcript. That is as far as the test went. Now I have a 53 minute video of a presentation along with a separate audio file that needs voice-to-text transcription. I am well aware of the limitations and level of accuracy of such programs, but I have to give it a shot anyway. I was able to get an XML file from the transcription but no text shows up in the Metadata window in the Speech Transcription panel. I had planned to attempt a cut and paste from the Transcription window into MS Word. Or, if I can get the XML file to convert to text in MS Word, then I can go that route, but no luck so far. I have also tried Soundbooth with the same results. Anyone?

  If you can see the metadata panel showing a selected clip’s transcript then you should be able to copy the metadata text section and paste it into a document.

  I opened an Audition session that used the audio only file for transcription, and the text showed up this time. However, the audio that the client supplied was really poor. Even with noise redux and volume changes, the speech-to-text accuracy was pretty bad. It was enough, however, for me to cut and paste into my scripting program to designate scene changes. Hopefully, Adobe will improve it’s accuracy.

  I was having trouble getting the text to copy into Word. However, I found that it copied fine into Text Edit. From Text Edit, you can copy to Word.

  Thanks Chris. I didn’t think of that and it does work. Too bad that Adobe has such a poor rate of accuracy. Maybe they will improve it with CS5.

  In Premiere CS4, from Metadata, I’m trying to copy the text into MSWord,I see that you pasted into Text Edit, then from Text Edit you pasted into MSWord. My question is where do I find Text Edit?
