Final Cut Studio 6 to Premiere CS4
Posted by Jan Horne on November 14, 2009 at 12:17 amI have an editor that is sending me xml files exported by final cut studio 6. I use premiere cs4 and i can import the project file but when I try to do anything to it the system crashes. Does anyone know what I can do to get this project into cs4? Thanks!

November 14, 2009 at 3:22 pmMy experience with my newly upgraded CS4 to Vista 64 is that any .mov files left in a project tend to make the project crash and the Export Server crash when trying to go to Media Encoder. My workaround to get this problem temporarily resolved is to back up the project – remove all the .mov files from it and work on it with just avi files and other MS friendly files (mwv, Flash, etc.) This may be just a problem with CS4 or Vista 64. Maybe Windows 7 will resolve it. A colleague made me a moving BG for IDs on his AE on FCP – sent it as a .mov file and a large project I am working on immediately started crashing. He then brought me the elements and rebuilt the BG on my system’s AE and the system stopped crashing. So, for the moment – .mov files are banned from any of my projects. Not a fix but a temporary relief. Wonder if any other editors on CS4 and Vista 64 have experienced the same problems?

November 14, 2009 at 3:58 pmI tried opening the project and relinking avi files in place of the mov files. The project opens but as soon as I touch the sequence it crashes. I am going to try to link the avi files in the Final Cut system and save it and reopen it in Premiere. Any suggestions would be helpful as I am on a deadline and dont have a lot of time to test.
Thanks!
