  Quicktime output is brighter than original

  I have noticed that Quicktime movies exported from Premiere Pro CS 4.2
  tend to be brighter than original material.

  Let’s say if i export a movie to Photo-JPEG codec with the quality of 100 and import it back to premiere – it will be noticably brighter.

  The same applies to some other QT codecs. At least Animation codec seems to be correct, but i don’t like it because it produces very huge
  clips.

  I have anything “updated”, latest versions, etc.

  Can anyone help please?

  Search the web for “Apple Quicktime gamma problem”, you will find many articles relating to this. It is a bug in Quicktime. Has been for a long time, and still (as far as I know) exists.

  An alternative is AVID DNxHD codecs, which work quite well. I’ve been using them to do client exchanges; visually high-quality and efficient compression.
  You may also want to try the (native) PNG codec in QuickTime. It is lossless compression, and I think free from the gamma issues.

  Tried AVID codecs – they appear in wrong colorspace when imported back to Premiere CS4.

  PNG takes very long time to render HD material and the file size is too big for RT HD playback.

  Right now i made a decicion to swith to MPEG2 HD 100 Mbit (mpg) as an intermediate format for my projects. It’s a bit lossy (not much) but has no issues with color/gamma and plays RT.
