Next edit quick key
How can I make the page down quick key for next edit go across all tracks. Just got CS4 and I have to select the track I want to go to the next edit on first, as opposed to Premier 2 where pressing this key went to the next edit, no matter what track it was on. Is this possilbe. The new way is slowing me down.

You need to highlight all the tracks. Press and hold down the Shift Key and Left mouse click on the names of the video tracks, it will highlight all the clips. Do this on a track that is highlighted and they will all unhighlight. Do the same for your Audio Tracks. With them all highlighted the PgUp and PgDn function will respond as expected.

The reason I use this feature is to add graphics or titles, or copy and paste to exact edit points. If I highlight all the tracks, when I copy and paste, it will automatically paste on track 1 covering up whatever is there. So I then have to un-highlight all the tracks except where I want things to go. This takes twice as long as the old way, which was just a a simple, global next edit…no matter what track, just THE next edit. Is there no way to do this without highlighting tracks?

Sorry my friend, but the workflow has changed. It’s much like Avid now. It was always very similar to Avid, but yes CS3 and CS4 have a new workflow. You can override the need to highlight all tracks by using the next/previous edit buttons in the controls section on the program monitor that will jump to all edit point regardless of highlighted tracks.
It’s a new system, but it’s grown on me and in some ways I find it better than the old way.
