  Possible frame rate problem is CS4

  I shot a few things with a Canon HG20 and while I’ve become increasingly well versed in the horrors of AVCHD this seems to be unrelated to processing power. The native clips play fine in the timeline. There’s no stuttering at all.

  What does look unusual is the frame rate. At least that’s what I think it is. Any time the subject moves it looks strange. I think there must be a disconnect between the settings on the camera and the way my project was set up in PPCS4. This is all very new to me so I apologize in advance.

  Here are the settings on the camera:
  MXP mode (1920×1080), frame rate=60i. The clips play beautifully within the camera so it’s not an effect setting or anything that I accidentally applied.

  And here are the project settings in PPCS4:
  DVCPROHD>1080i>DVCPROHD 1080i 60i
  It shows the timebase at 29.97fps and I thought the camera was recording 24fps.

  **UPDATE**
  Nevermind. The AVCHD preset wasn’t showing up at first for some reason. Sorry for the complete waste of space guys.

  It looks like the video is playing back is a bit faster than it should. Double check the camera to make sure that it’s not 24p over 60i.

  Interpret the footage in the project panel and make sure it’s interpreted at 60i.

  At the end you say you thought the camera was recording at 24p?

  Then you need to set up a 24p timeline.

  Also why are you working in a DVC ProHD timeline instead of AVCHD?

  Vince, thanks for the response. I updated my original post to say that I had switched over to AVCHD preset. But the footage looks the same.

  When I click interpret footage it says “Use Frame Rate from File: 29.9700”. How do I know if it’s 60i?

  I was initially confused that perhaps the “cine mode” setting on the camera meant switching it to 24fps, but the frame rate is definitely 60i.

  Thanks for your help. Like I said… whole new world for me.
