  ‘a serious error has occured that has caused premiere to shut down’

  Hi

  I have a one minute sequence with video footage, sound and titles. When trying to export through media encoder, I’m getting the message ‘a serious error has occured that has caused premiere to shut down.’ Baffled…

  Format, computer specs, export settings?

  Specs are single 1.8ghz processor, 2 gig ram (4G page file), 150 gig hard disk space with 50 gig free.

  I know this may be a bit short but I can usually export to AVI when using standard frame dimensions. However a client has asked for video dimensions of 1000×520 and this is when I encounter the error and shut down.

  I dont get far enough to set the export settings.

  Any help appreciated.

  Have you created a custom timeline with the dimensions you need to edit in?

  New Sequence, General Tab, Set to Desktop and customize the fps, frame dimensions, PAR, Audio etc. Name the seq and OK.

  CS3 you need to set this at New Project stage, CS4 can do this at any point in the Project’s life.

  That might help on export.

  Hi Jon

  I’m using CS4 but did set the sequence to the correct dimensions. The client asked me to set the sequence preset to mobile devices (Ipod, QUGA, Sub-QGIF) which gave me the dimensions that’ll fit the required framework.

  I originally completed the project (before they told me of their dimension requirements) using different dimensions which exported without error?
