  Title designer not allowing me to type or design.

  I’ve been using the Title creator on Premiere Pro CS4 for a while now, and it works as it should. However recently it’s gone strange. Either going to New Title to do just that, or clicking on an existing title in the timeline to modify it, results in the text (to type) and arrow (to drag) boxes on the left hand side not being present. Instead theres just a small grey and white chequered box. The main screen on which you type is just grey and not displaying where the pointer is on the timeline (as it normally does to reveal what you’re typing over). The display on my TV monitor attached thru the Matrox RT.X2 to the PC, shows either a picture of just chequered grey and white , or sometimes a combination of this and black background. Sometimes, the font style and size options appear on the right hand side of the title designer as they should. Other times its not there. The only way to type is to take an existing title, and type into the screen where you normally would, without any cursor or display of what you’re doing there. What you’re typing only appears on the black portion of the TV output. Theres no way to drag and move it around. You can only use the spacebar and arrow keys to move it, and its wholly inaccurate. Note: You can’t do new titles (if you try nothing happens) only type into existing ones. Thinking the system might be having a cow over the size of my current project (which is only about 14 mins of standard DV) I closed and opened a new project just to do the titles in. Same problem as before. Opened new project and saved to other hard drive on which nothing else is saved. No change. Shut down and switched on PC several times. No difference. The problem’s only occured in the last couple of weeks. Never had it before. PC is not connected to a modem so there’s no chance of me having downloaded anything malicious etc. Ditto to me uploading anything on via USB stick etc.

  Anyone understand how I can get back to doing titles as I always have? It mystifies me. Your help would be greatly appreaciated.
